WHY IT’S IMPORTANT!
COLLABORATION
Families and early childhood education programs work together and share information. Volunteering and actively participating in school events and activities allows family members to offer their unique expertise and talents. Teachers gather knowledge about their students’ lives, families, and communities and use it into their curriculum and teaching procedures.
EARLY LEARNING
It’s important for early childhood education programs and their families to think about how to make and keep learning activities at home and in the community that go beyond what the program is teaching. This will help each child learn more early on.
GOAL SETTING
Families make their home a place that encourages learning and supports programs. Programs and families work together to set goals for children both at home and at school.

Family Engagement
Early childhood education programs promote and validate family engagement in educational decision-making for their children. By actively participating in decision-making opportunities, families may serve as advocates for their children and the early childhood education program.
2-WAY COMMUNICATION
Consistent, two-way communication is enabled in a variety of ways and is sensitive to the family’s language preferences. Communication should be started by both the school and the home, and it should be timely and constant, encouraging dialogues regarding both the child’s educational experience and the wider program.
